WindBots: A wind-powered engineering adventure

The Thames & Kosmos WindBots 6-in-1 Engineering STEM Kit invites curious builders to explore one of the world’s oldest power sources: wind. With more than 130 parts, the kit guides you through six autonomous models that move without batteries or electricity. You’ll hear the soft click of snap-together pieces and feel the satisfying resistance of gears as you turn, align, and test. A handheld wind generator puts a portable wind source in your hands, so you can observe how wind can be converted into motion and power.

What you build

  • Surf Bot: wind-driven propulsion for smooth, gliding action
  • Walker Bot: nimble, stepping motion powered by wind
  • Drill Dozer: gear-driven workhorse with torque-focused design
  • Quadruped: four-legged traversal powered by wind energy
  • Flying Machine: lift, balance, and wind interaction in flight-like motion
  • Big Wheel Tricycle: stable, wind-powered mobility with simple gearing

Hands-on learning, at your pace

  • Snap-fit construction requires no glue, making setup quick and tidy
  • 52-page full-color manual provides step-by-step assembly and clear explanations
  • Explore wind technology, gear ratios, and how gears transmit power and torque
  • See how wind can serve as a power source now, with a look at past and future uses

What you get and how it helps curiosity grow

  • Over 130 pieces plus a handheld wind generator for on-the-spot experiments
  • All models run without batteries or electricity, highlighting wind as a practical energy source
  • Ideal for at-home exploration, classroom demonstrations, or maker-space activities

Whether you’re exploring science topics a little at a time or diving into a longer project, WindBots provides a tactile, visual way to observe motion, gear interaction, and wind behavior. The kit emphasizes possibilities and inquiry, inviting you to imagine how wind technology has evolved and what possibilities wind might unlock in the days ahead.
